Virginia: Governor Youngkin Defends your Second Amendment Rights by Vetoing Dozens of Anti-Gun Bills!

Virginia: Governor Youngkin Defends your Second Amendment Rights by Vetoing Dozens of Anti-Gun Bills!

Yesterday, Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) delivered a critical victory for law-abiding gun owners in Virginia by vetoing several dozen anti-gun bills passed by the General Assembly earlier this year.

Similar to legislation passed by the General Assembly last year, the bills sent to Governor Youngkin’s desk would have trampled on the Second Amendment rights of all Virginians by restricting the Constitutional rights of 18- to 20-year-old adults, dramatically expanding gun-free zones, and enacting a mandatory waiting period to take possession of legally purchased firearms, among other things.

The NRA thanks Governor Youngkin for protecting the Second Amendment in Virginia and encourages all our members and fellow Second Amendment advocates to thank him as well. Please click the “Take Action” button below to send your thanks to Governor Youngkin.

Further, the NRA thanks all our members and Second Amendment supporters across the Commonwealth for their active engagement throughout the 2025 legislative session.

“While today is a victory for gun rights in the Old Dominion State, the NRA will remain vigilant and engaged to fight off future attempts to restrict freedom,” said John Commerford, Executive Director of the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA). “There’s no doubt that out-of-state gun control groups will be active in Virginia again next session, recycling many, if not all, of these anti-gun bills. That’s why it’s critical for Second Amendment supporters to turn out in November and ensure that the next Governor of the Commonwealth is one who will work tirelessly to preserve Virginians’ Second Amendment rights and ensure law-abiding gun owners can protect themselves and their loved ones.”

This fall, Virginia voters will head to the polls to elect a Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, and members of the House of Delegates. NRA members and Second Amendment supporters are encouraged to visit www.nrapvf.org to learn about races in their area.
