On Tuesday February 13th, the Subcommittee on Public Safety held House File 488, stopping the bill from progressing this legislative session. NRA members and Second Amendment supporters showed up in force, helping defeat this legislation. The NRA would also like to thank the committee members who stood up for law-abiding gun owners, opposing this proposal.
HF 488 would have increased costs, delays and restrictions on law-abiding citizens, by requiring the serialization of homebuilt firearms and certain firearm parts. Supporters of this legislation laud this as a critical public safety bill, however the reality is that it would have a disparate impact on law-abiding gun owners while criminals will continue to operate outside the law, ignoring this new proposal.
