California: Anti-Gun Forces Once Again Seeking to Ban Del Mar Gun Show

On Tuesday, April 24, dozens of anti-gun advocates are expected to attend the 22nd District Agricultural Association’s Board of Directors meeting to request the Board end the use of the Del Mar Fairgrounds by the widely popular and family friendly Crossroads of the West Gun Show.

This isn’t the first time anti-gun advocates have sought to put an end to the Gun Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. In 2013, the Del Mar City Council adopted a resolution urging the Board to not renew their contract with the Crossroads of the West Gun Show. Thankfully, the Board recognized that as a public entity, it could not discriminate against who can or cannot use the Fairgrounds.

In 2016, a handful of anti-gun residents demanded the Board to discontinue all gun shows at the Fairgrounds. In response, NRA and CRPA attorneys submitted a letter to the Board that highlighted all the restrictions applicable to gun shows in California. Following the submission of this letter, the Board ultimately decided to not pursue additional restrictions against gun shows held at the Fairgrounds.

Tuesday’s Board meeting is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM in the Board Meeting Room, located on the Del Mar Fairgrounds at 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Del Mar, California 92014. We encourage all our members to attend and voice their support for the Crossroads of the West Gun Show and to share any personal experiences they have had attending the show in the past.

Unless otherwise noted, speakers should limit their presentation to three minutes. Members should also note that because no item is currently on the Board’s agenda for Tuesday’s meeting, the Board will not be able to comment or answer any questions during the meeting.

If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, you can also leave a voicemail with Donna O’Leary, executive assistant to the Board, by calling (858) 755-1161, ext. 2200, or submitting a letter to the Board directly at the address below.
