As the legislature adjourned on Friday evening, anti-gun Senate Democrats posted a last-minute bill for an override consideration today! This legislation purports to address domestic violence, and has been defeated not once, but twice. Governor Chris Christie vetoed similar bills in both the 2015 and 2016 sessions. However, anti-gun politicians are undaunted and have opted for a sneak attack this time.
While convicted violent domestic abusers should be harshly punished, this bill is nothing more than disguised gun control. New Jersey already has some of the toughest domestic violence laws in the country, in addition to federal firearm prohibitions. S.805/A.1211 is more obsessed with firearms than actually punishing convicted violent domestic abusers. This is just another bill coming out of Trenton taking a swipe at law abiding gun owners in the Garden State.
NRA applauds Gov. Christie for vetoing this legislation, and urges you to contact your Senator immediately and respectfully ask them to oppose this override attempt. A two-thirds vote is necessary on an override attempt, so this presents an opportunity for gun owners to make a difference by taking action today.
