Last night, the Castle Rock Town Council voted a second and final time in favor of repealing the current local prohibition on openly carrying a firearm in public buildings and parks. This second 4-3 vote came just before 11:00 p.m. following several hours of public comment on repeal of the firearm open-carry ban. Castle Rock's open carry ban had previously been in place since 2003.
The repeal of this open-carry ban is a step forward for Second Amendment rights for both the citizens of Castle Rock and Colorado. We thank all who attended the town council meeting and voiced their opinion on this issue to town council members. The vote breakdown is below.
THOSE VOTING FOR REPEAL:
Paul Donahue, Mayor (District 1)
Jennifer Green (District 3)
Renee Valentine (District 5)
Joe Procopio, Mayor Pro Tem (District 7)
THOSE VOTING AGAINST REPEAL:
Mark P. Heath (District 2)
Chip Wilson (District 4)
Clark Hammelman (District 6)
