HB 5407, sponsored by Rep. Mark Beaubien (R-Wauconda) and Sen. Todd Sieben (R-Geneseo), became law July 14. It establishes the Illinois Apprentice Hunter License Program. Basically, it allows hunters to try the sport for a year. Those 10 to 17 can buy an apprentice license and hunt with a parent, grandparent or guardian who has a valid resident hunting license. Those 18 and older can buy an apprentice license and hunt with any family member or friend who is a licensed Illinois resident hunter.
