Nevada: Gun Bills Receiving Hearings in Carson City

Tomorrow, Tuesday March 3, at 8:00 a.m., Assembly Bill 171, will be heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee.  Introduced by Assemblywoman Shelly Shelton (R-10), AB 171 is a critical self-defense bill that makes changes to Nevada’s self-defense laws, revising the definition of justifiable homicide, creating a presumption that an act of self defense was justified if certain criteria are met and providing protection against civil liability if the act was justified.

On Thursday, March 5, at 8:00 a.m., Assembly Bill 148, will be heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee.  Introduced by Assemblywoman Michele Fiore (R-4), AB 148 revises concealed-weapon laws to expand areas where concealed carry permit holders can lawfully carry.

Last Wednesday, February 25, the following bills were heard in committee:

Assembly Bill 139, introduced by Assemblyman Jim Wheeler (R-39), was heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee.  AB 139 makes changes to the existing concealed-weapons laws to authorize a non-resident who possesses a valid permit issued by another state to carry a concealed firearm in Nevada.

Senate Bill 171, introduced by state Senator James Settelmeyer (R-17), was heard in the Senate Judiciary Committee.  SB 171 makes improvements to the existing law with respect to recognition ofout-of-state concealed carry permits. This bill would also do away with the Clark County blue card registration system by removing the grandfather exemption from the state preemption statutes.

Your NRA-ILA will continue to keep you updated on these critical pro-gun bills when more information is available.

Please contact the members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee and politely urge them to SUPPORT AB 171 and AB 148. Committee contact information is provided below.
