On Monday, May 17, the Minnesota Legislature adjourned from their 2021 Regular Session. This session, your NRA-ILA constantly monitored over 50 pro-and anti-gun measures. Thanks to contact from NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters, we were able to prevent multiple anti-gun measures from being passed this session, including:
- HF 694 /SF 894 would have implemented universal background checks in Minnesota on all firearms.
- HF 2498 /SF 2048 would have stopped the current legal practice of carrying concealed in the Capitol.
- HF 1634 /SF 1431 would have implemented a so-called “Red Flag” law allowing emergency seizure of firearms from individuals based upon hearsay and uncorroborated evidence without due process.
However, the fight is not yet over. The Legislature is expected to convene a Special Session on June 14, where these and other anti-gun measures could be reconsidered. Further, there is a chance that anti-gun legislators will attempt to include gun control or even a lead ammunition ban into an omnibus bill.
NRA Members and Second Amendment supporters are encouraged to remain vigilant and stay-tuned to NRA-ILA alerts for more information and updates.
