This week, two anti-gun measures have made it to the floor in both chambers of the Colorado General Assembly. Please contact your lawmakers and ask them to OPPOSE Senate Bill 78 and House Bill 1106.
Senate Bill 78 victimizes gun owners who suffer loss or theft of their property with a fine if they don’t report a lost or stolen firearm within five days of discovering it missing. A firearm owner should not be held liable for the crimes committed by a person who has illegally obtained their firearm. Individuals should not be further victimized after experiencing a burglary or other crime.
House Bill 1106 imposes government-mandated standards for storing firearms, rendering a person’s firearm useless when needed for self-defense. This should be a matter of personal responsibility, as everyone’s situation is different.
This measure places undue burden on law-abiding gun owners, while touting “crime prevention.” Littleton, CO recently passed a similar storage ordinance for gun dealers, mandating certain storage procedures and devices that have created huge financial restrictions for business owners. Further, the financial and physical requirements for abiding by this ordinance are nearly impossible to comply with.
