The Hawaii State Senate is holding votes next week on bills to ban more firearms and magazines in Hawaii. Please contact your state senator and ask them to OPPOSE SB 301 and SB 307.
Senate Bill 301, sponsored by Karl Rhoads (D-13), bans all magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds. The legislation fails to protect magazines that are already lawfully owned, requiring destruction, surrender, or alteration.
Senate Bill 307, sponsored by Karl Rhoads (D-13), bans "any firearm or rifle with the capacity to fire ammunition of fifty caliber or higher," with an exemption for shotguns and muzzleloaders.
Yesterday, the House passed House Bill 1366. The bill will now be transmitted to the Senate for further consideration. HB 1366, sponsored by Patrick Branco (D-50), amends language regarding home-built firearms passed last session (Act 74 2020). It bans possession of certain unfinished firearm components, as well as home-built firearms. Current law does not ban possession for those owned prior to the ban passed last year.
Again, please contact your state senator and ask them to OPPOSE SB 301 and SB 307.
