On Friday, the Nebraska Judiciary Committee will consider a bill that imposes more bureaucratic red tape and fees on the purchase of firearms and accessories. Legislative Bill 816 requires law-abiding Nebraskans to pay a fee and wait at least 48 hours to obtain permission from law enforcement to purchase a semi-automatic rifle or shotgun. This process is unnecessary. Please contact LB 816’s sponsor, Senator John McCollister, at 402-471-2622 and urge him to pull his gun tax bill.
The Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on Legislative Bill 816 this Friday in Room 1113 at 1:30 PM. If you are able, please attend this hearing and voice your opposition to Legislative Bill 816.
Legislative Bill 816, sponsored by Sen. John McCollister (R-20), requires that law-abiding gun owners pay a fee and obtain a certificate to purchase commonly-owned rifles and shotguns. The measure requires a waiting period of at least 48 hours and up to five days, regardless of the outcome of a background check. This is a deliberate attempt by anti-gun legislators to make it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Nebraska gun owners are facing multiple threats to their Second Amendment rights this year! It is important that you contact bill sponsor Senator McCollister at 402-471-2622 and ask him to pull his extreme firearm and accessory tax legislation.
