Today, the South Dakota Senate passed House Bill 1209 by a 31-1 vote. Now HB 1209 will head to the desk of Governor Daugaard to await his signature. House Bill 1209 joins House Bill 1271 on the Governor’s desk. Please contact Governor Dennis Daugaard and politely urge him to sign House Bill 1209 and House Bill 1271 into law.
House Bill 1209 seeks to require that applicants for a South Dakota concealed carry license undergo a background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). This update would make consistent all three classes of concealed carry permits in South Dakota.
House Bill 1271 would allow individuals to carry a firearm for self-defense on the premises of any nonpublic school, church or house of worship, or a nonpublic school that is located on the premises of a church or other house of worship.
Again, please contact Governor Dennis Daugaard and politely urge him to sign House Bill 1209 and House Bill 1271 into law.
