Yesterday, September 6, Michigan state Senators Tom Casperson (R-38) and Tonya Schuitmaker (R-26) introduced Senate Bill 0527 in order to guarantee that law-abiding citizens will not be stripped of their Second Amendment rights when they choose to provide foster care to children. SB 0527 has been assigned to the Senate Committee on Families, Seniors, and Human Services. Please contact committee members and urge them to SUPPORT SB 0527! As shown by recent events, anti-gun bureaucrats at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services have been forcing foster parents to choose between their Second Amendment rights or their children. SB 0527 would protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners to possess on their person or store, in a locked container, firearms and ammunition while in the presence of a foster child or on the premises of a foster home. Foster parents are like any other parents who simply want to care for their children, including exercising their Second Amendment rights in order to protect their families. The needs of foster children should be placed above any anti-gun agenda.
