Next Wednesday, September 13th at 1:30pm the Senate Law & Justice Committee will be holding a public hearing on draft bill S-2954.1, which will amend Washington's public records act exemptions to better protect the private, personal information of Washington's concealed pistol license holders from public records requests.
Currently, Washington state law provides an exemption from a public records request for concealed pistol license applications, except as needed by law enforcement or corrections. S-2954.1 would add further clarifying language to the existing statute to ensure the concealed pistol license itself, along with any supporting documentation, are also exempt from disclosure. This amendment remains consistent with existing law's protection of records that contain individual, personal information- just as library cards and bus pass user information is also protected.
NRA members and Second Amendment supporters are invited to attend the hearing and voice their support for S-2954.1. Additional information on the hearing and how to testify can be found here.
