Last Friday, May 19, Governor Henry McMaster (R) signed H. 3429 into law. This bill went into effect upon the Governor’s approval.
H. 3429 is a pro-gun bill (now law) that was introduced by state Representative Alan Clemmons (R-107). This was NRA-supported legislation, and now that it has been signed by the Governor, it amends South Carolina’s bankruptcy laws to recognize the fundamental right to personal protection by ensuring citizens who have fallen on hard times, financially, will not be required to sell all of their firearms maintained for personal protection in order to satisfy their debts. As enacted, H. 3429 allows for the retention of any type of firearm, up to a total of three, provided the total value does not exceed $3,000.00.
