Senate Bill 445, companion to House Bill 508, is up for a vote on the Senate floor. It is imperative that you contact your state Senator and politely urge them to support Senate Bill 445 and to oppose any new floor amendments.
SB 445/HB 508, sponsored by state Senator John Stevens and state Representative William Lamberth respectively, would create a private cause of action for a party that is adversely affected by a local ordinance, resolution, policy, rule, or other enactment on firearms preempted by state law. This bill would prohibit local government entities from prohibiting or restricting firearms on local property unless certain security conditions are met. Law-abiding citizens should not be placed in jeopardy of unintentionally violating local restrictions simply because they have crossed from one municipality to another. Gun owners continue to be unduly burdened by local ordinances which violate the current state firearm preemption law.
Again, please urge your Senator to support Senate Bill 445 and to oppose any new floor amendments.

After an intense floor debate last week, House Bill 508 passed the House after having defeated numerous hostile floor amendments. Thank you to all the legislators who supported the bill in its current form and defended this important legislation on the floor.
