Yesterday, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed House Bill 2322. HB 2322 will now head to the Senate floor where it will await full consideration. Sponsored by state Representative Jeff Coody, HB 2322 would further clarify existing law to ensure that firearm and ammunition laws are consistent throughout the Sooner state. Please contact your state Senator and politely urge them to SUPPORT House Bill 2322 when it comes up for a vote.
Current Oklahoma state firearms preemption laws exist to avoid the possibility of a complex patchwork of regulations across the state which make it difficult for responsible firearm owners to ensure they are following the law. However, in recent years many local governments have enacted gun control ordinances in violation of this current law.
Citizens with no criminal intent should not be placed in jeopardy of unknowingly running afoul of local restrictions simply because they have crossed from one municipality to another. HB 2322 would correct this problem by ensuring laws regarding firearms and ammunition are uniform across the state.
It is imperative that HB 2322 passes this year to ensure that gun owners and sportsmen across the state are protected by its strengthened preemption laws.
Once again, please contact your state Senator and politely urge them to SUPPORT HB 2322 when it comes up for a vote.
