Last week, the Arizona Senate passed Senate Bill 1122 with a 16-14 vote. Sponsored by state Senator Gail Griffin (R-14), this important legislation would prevent the state of Arizona, a county, city or town government from requiring a person to access or facilitate access to any state, federal or third party database as a condition of selling, gifting, donating or transferring personal property. This would include so-called “universal background checks” on the private transfer of firearms. SB 1122 has been referred to the House Committee on Federalism, Property Rights and Public Policy.
