Tomorrow, Senate Bill 1243, a bill which would expand the list of places where law-abiding gun owners can carry concealed, is scheduled for a committee hearing in the Senate Government Committee. Please use the Request to Speak application (RTS) on the Arizona State Legislature website to urge committee members to SUPPORT SB 1243. RTS is the most efficient and effective way to contact committee members with your support of important pro-gun legislation. It is imperative that you create an account and continue utilizing this tool throughout the 2017 legislative session.
SB 1243 makes changes to existing law and expands the list of places where law-abiding gun owners can exercise their fundamental right to self-defense to include some additional public areas where certain security measures are not in place.
Additionally, House Bill 2287 passed out of the House Judiciary and Public Safety Committee last week and was also deemed “proper” by the Rules Committee. HB 2287 is currently waiting to go before the House Committee of the Whole. HB 2287 revises the culpable mental state for the unlawful discharge of a firearm from “criminal negligence” to “knowingly or recklessly,” and amends the discharge distance from an occupied structure from one mile to one-fourth of a mile.
