The House Finance Committee is continuing to sit on Senate Bill 174 and time is running out. The legislature is already in extended session and could adjourn at any time. Today may be the last time you have an opportunity to weigh in with legislators and keep this important self-defense legislation moving. It is important that you contact your state Representative and members of the House Finance Committee and politely urge them to support and take action on Senate Bill 174.
SB 174 would allow students, faculty and guests to own, possess, carry, transport or store a firearm on areas of the University of Alaska campus where not prohibited by law. This legislation would limit the Board of Regent’s ability to regulate the possession and carry of firearms on campuses at the University of Alaska. A state-funded institution should not be allowed to impose rules more strict than state law, especially rules to limit one’s right to self-defense. Individuals should not be prevented from exercising their right to self-defense simply because they choose to seek a college education.
Again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact your state Representative, as well as members of the House Finance Committee, and politely urge them to support SB 174 with no amendments.
