Today, the House Judiciary Committee passed Senate Bill 174 and it has been referred to the House Finance Committee. It is more important than ever that you contact members of the House Finance Committee and politely urge them to SUPPORT Senate Bill 174 when it comes up for a vote.
SB 174 would allow students, faculty and guests to own, possess, carry, transport or store a firearm on areas of the University of Alaska campus where not prohibited by law. This legislation would limit the Board of Regent’s ability to regulate the possession and carry of firearms on campuses at the University of Alaska. A state-funded institution should not be allowed to impose rules more strict than state law, especially rules to limit one’s right to self-defense. Individuals should not be prevented from exercising their right to self-defense simply because they choose to seek a college education.
Again, please click the “Take Action” button above to contact your state Representative, as well as members of the House Finance Committee, and politely urge them to support SB 174 with no amendments.
