This week, the Statehouse was filled with Second Amendment supporters who showed up for a late afternoon rally preceding the Legislature convening for the day. Several lawmakers stood with the group in opposing new firearms restrictions. The tremendous showing of support was estimated at between 300 to 400 pro-gun activists, most of whom signed up to testify at the March 22 meeting of the House Judiciary Committee. The panel went well into the evening and took testimony on more than a dozen gun bills, as previously reported.
While your NRA-ILA will continue to push for pro-Second Amendment legislation that appeared on the agenda, we were pleased that all the bills were held for further study. Meaning, at this time, those bills which include anti-carry bills and a 10-round magazine restriction, have failed to advance. However, we must remain vigilant as these bills could come back at any time until the session ends. In fact, many of these bills have Senate companions, and the Senate is likely to hold a similar evening of gun bills in the coming days and weeks.
Your NRA-ILA will continue to keep you updated as more information becomes available.
