Cody Shaw was with his girlfriend in his Jeannette, Pa. home when a group of four tried to break into the residence through a window. Shaw responded to the threat by retrieving a .380-caliber pistol and firing at the home invaders, striking two and prompting all to flee. Police captured all of the home invaders shortly after the incident. The wounded intruders are expected to survive.
Following the incident, Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck told a local news outlet, “I have not seen all the reports yet, but based on a thumbnail outline of the event ... it does sound like the Castle Doctrine may apply.” Shaw later took to Facebook, posting, “Thank God for the right to bear arms. I kept my house safe.” (Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Pittsburgh, Pa. 03/23/16, WTAE, Pittsburgh, Pa. 03/23/16)
