As early as today, Senate Bill 231 could be considered by the full Senate. Sponsored by state Senators Ray S. Jones II (D-31) and C.B. Embry Jr. (R-6), SB 231 makes several positive changes and clarifies Kentucky’s laws in relation to firearm training and licensing, including:
- Specifically recognizes the NRA classes as fulfilling the requirements of the Department of Criminal Justice Training firearms safety program
- Specifically recognizes NRA training of trainer instructors and trainers as fulfilling the requirements of the Department of Criminal Justice Training firearms safety program
- Prohibits administrative regulations which require concealed deadly weapon license applicants to clean guns in class and replaces with hands-on classroom gun cleaning requirements with instructor demonstrations
Please contact your state Senator and urge them to support SB 231 when it is brought up for consideration.
