Despite weeks of misleading attacks by billionaire gun control advocate Michael Bloomberg and his anti-gun grassroots group, Everytown for Gun Safety, the Senate Judiciary A Committee reported out NRA-backed House Bill 786 late Thursday afternoon. HB 786 will now be sent to the full Senate for consideration.
House Bill 786, sponsored by state Representative Andy Gipson (R-Braxton), expands permitless carry options to include belt or shoulder holsters and allows church authorities to develop security programs that designate enhanced carry permit holders or those with military or law enforcement backgrounds to protect places of worship. Participants in these programs would receive the benefits of existing protections under the state's Castle Doctrine law.
The Committee also approved House Bill 1300, sponsored by state Representative Joey Hood (R-Ackerman), which expands legal protections for shooting ranges in the Magnolia State.
The Senate must take HB 786 and HB 1300 up for a vote by March 30. Please be sure to contact your state Senator and urge him or her to pass HB 786 and HB 1300 this session! You can contact your Senator by clicking here or the Take Action Button above.
