As previously reported, important self-defense legislation, Senate Bill 626 and House Bill 766, were sent to the Governor’s desk for his consideration. Governor McAuliffe has returned these bipartisan bills back to their chambers of origin with his suggested recommendations. Unfortunately, his recommendations completely negate the purpose of this legislation. Having been passed with an overwhelming bipartisan vote in both the House and the Senate, SB 626 /HB 766 need your help to become law. It is imperative that you contact your state Senator and your Delegate TODAY and strongly urge them to reject the Governor’s recommendations and pass SB 626 /HB 766 in its original form.
Patroned by state Senator Jill Holtzman Vogel (R-27) and Delegate Todd Gilbert (R-15), SB 626 /HB 766 would allow the petitioner of a protective order to temporarily conceal carry without a permit, thus affording them immediate self-defense options while waiting for their carry permit to be approved.
This legislation would provide an avenue for someone to immediately protect themselves from impending harm when they have found it necessary to file a protective order against another individual. If signed into law, these bills would allow the petitioner of the protective order to immediately exercise their constitutional right to self-defense while providing them with an expedited process to get their concealed carry permit.
Again, it is important that you contact your state Senator and your Delegate to strongly urge them to oppose the Governor’s recommendations and pass SB 626 /HB 766 in its original form.
