Tomorrow, March 10, House File 2314, the Carry Permit Reform and Information Protection Act is scheduled for a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing at 11:30am. This critical bill would help clarify Iowa’s current carry permit law and ensure the protection of gun owners’ personal information. By legislative rule, the Senate must move all House proposals out of committee by March 11. Those bills that fail to pass are not eligible for floor action. Please contact the members of the Committee and politely urge them to SUPPORT HF 2314 WITHOUT AMENDMENT. HF 2314 is aimed at providing clarification and simplicity to the Iowa permit renewal process. The current renewal process has been in place for six years and needs the fixes provided in HF 2314 as currently drafted. The proposed amendment is unnecessary, and only brings more confusion to the process. Additionally, HF 2314 would respect law-abiding gun owner’s right to privacy by keeping all personally identifiable information of applicants and holders of permits to carry weapons and permits to acquire pistols/revolvers, confidential.
