As previously reported, the House Judiciary-Criminal Committee is scheduled to hear House Bill 3160 tomorrow. Please contact committee members and politely urge them to strongly oppose HB 3160 when it comes up for a vote. Also, it’s important for members and Second Amendment supporters to fill out and submit a witness slip in order to be placed on the record in opposition to HB 3160.
HB 3160 would allow an individual’s family members or law enforcement to petition the court for an ex parte restraining order if they consider the individual to be a danger to themselves or others simply because the individual owns, possesses or purchases a firearm. According to the summary of the bill, an ex parte order would be issued by a judge based solely on a brief, unsubstantiated affidavit made by a petitioner and absent any input made by the individual on which the order is targeted. If enacted, this legislation would require the surrender of FOID cards, concealed carry licenses as well as the seizure of all firearms by law enforcement. This legislation is ripe for abuse by individuals that disagree with the Second Amendment, and the mere insinuation that gun ownership makes you a danger to yourself or others is offensive and insulting.
It is very important that you contact the members of the House Judiciary-Criminal Committee and politely urge them to strongly oppose House Bill 3160. You can contact committee members by clicking here or the Take Action button above.

Co-Sponsors Needed for Pro-Gun Legislation!
Senate Bill 2341, introduced by state Senator Matt Murphy (R-27), seeks to remove the power of local governments and municipalities to impose a sales tax on firearm and ammunition purchases. This legislation would also void the currently standing firearm and ammunition sales tax in the City of Chicago. These taxes seek to make an already expensive product even more so, potentially pricing law-abiding citizens out of exercising their Second Amendment rights. Further, those taxes levied from gun owners are placed into the “Public Safety Fund,” thereby blaming law-abiding individuals and forcing them to pay for the crimes and acts committed by criminals.
SB 2341 has been referred to the Subcommittee on Special Issues where it awaits a hearing to be scheduled. It is important that members and Second Amendment supporters call their state Senator and politely urge him or her to co-sponsor SB 2341. You can contact committee members by clicking here or the Take Action button above.
