Today, the Georgia House of Representatives passed House Bill 859 on a 113-59 vote. Sponsored by state Representative Rick Jasperse (R-11), HB 859 seeks to amend restrictions in state law by allowing law-abiding Georgia Weapons License (GWL) holders to carry when they are in or on certain buildings or real property owned by or leased to any public technical school, vocational school, college, university, or other institution of postsecondary education.
Georgia Weapons License holders do not present a threat to public safety, as they are one of the most law-abiding segments of the population. These individuals should not be prevented from exercising their right to self-defense simply because they choose to seek a college education. HB 859 now moves to the Senate where it awaits committee assignment and consideration. Please contact your state Representative if they supported this important measure and thank them for protecting your right to self-defense. You can contact your Representative by clicking here.
