As early as next week, Legislative Bill 289, the state preemption bill, could be on the calendar for its first floor debate in the Nebraska Legislature.
As previously reported, LB 289, sponsored by state Senator Laura Ebke (32), would protect the Second Amendment rights of all Nebraskans by creating a preemption statute to ensure that firearm and ammunition laws remain consistent across the Cornhusker State. This is much-needed legislation that would help prevent a complex patchwork of regulations across the state which make it difficult for responsible firearm owners to ensure they are following the law.
LB 289 passed out of the Judiciary Committee in 2015 without opposition. This bill qualified as a carryover bill for the second session of the 104th Legislature and has been placed on the list of Priority Bills for 2016.
Your NRA would like to thank Senator Laura Ebke (32) for sponsoring LB 289 and for her continued support of the Second Amendment. Additionally, your NRA would like to thank Senator David Schnoor (15) for making LB 289 a priority bill in 2016.
