On Wednesday, August 19, at 6:30 p.m., there will be a meeting with the county commissioners in Greene County, VA to discuss whether or not to allow Big Iron Outdoors’ proposed outdoor shooting range to open. Please consider attending this meeting to support this range.
According to the opposition, the public outdoor range, located in Ruckersville, would be built in very close proximity to a residential development and cause a noise disturbance for the neighborhood. This, however, is not true since the range is approximately ½ mile from the development and the range owners have taken the necessary precautions to prevent the reverberations of gunshot noise.
Further, the range owners are adding a rubber backstop, building side beams with reinforced concrete walls and adding acoustical materials to reduce reverberation. The range owners also conducted their own sound study, testing from the edge of the range owners’ property line to the nearest housing development. When compared to the noise levels of traffic on Highway 33, also close to the shooting range and the housing development, the noise level from the range was lower.
Those opposed want county residents to think that the range will cause a disturbance for surrounding neighborhoods when Big Iron Outdoors has taken the necessary precautions to reduce the noise levels and to make the range safe for users and bystanders.
We encourage you to attend this meeting and support Big Iron Outdoors, LLC. Again, the meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 19, at 6:30 p.m. at:
