Rhode Island: Bills that Violate Due Process Held in Committee as General Assembly Adjourns

Yesterday, the Rhode Island General Assembly adjourned from their 2015 Legislative Session.  Neither Senate Bill 503 nor Senate Bill 520 advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee.  Gun owners in the Ocean State can rest easy knowing that all anti-gun legislation introduced this session was held in committee for further study.  Thank you to all NRA members and Second Amendment supporters for your active involvement throughout the 2015 legislative session.

As previously reported, S. 503 and S.520 were gun bans disguised as domestic violence prevention bills.  They were part of a nationwide effort from Michael Bloomberg's gun control group, Everytown For Gun Safety, to pass similar bills that violate due process in multiple states. During the final days of the 2015 session, many bills were quickly and quietly moving through the legislative process and both S.503 and S.520 were scheduled for hearings this week after being “held for further study” earlier this session.

Your NRA has been busy opposing similar misguided bills across the country this year. The 2015 legislative session of the Rhode Island General Assembly has been a successful year for Second Amendment supporters.  Your NRA will continue to stand and fight for the rights of law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen across Rhode Island.
