Last week, the 2015 Utah legislative session wrapped up in Salt Lake City. This session saw the introduction of multiple pro-gun bills, including:
Senate Bill 256, sponsored by state Senator David Hinkins (R-27), would have created a permitless carry exemption to allow those who are 21 years of age and not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm to carry concealed without obtaining a permit. SB 256 was passed out of the Utah Senate by a 21 to 6 vote on March 9. Unfortunately, SB 256 died in the House.
House Bill 350, sponsored by state Representative Norman Thurston (R-64), would eliminate the prohibition of carrying a concealed weapon on a bus. HB 350 was passed out of the Utah House of Representatives by a 72 to 0 vote on March 9. Unfortunately, HB 350 did not pass in the Senate this session.
A special thanks to all dedicated NRA members and Second Amendment supporters who contacted their elected state officials on gun-related legislation.
