Please contact your legislators today in support of SB 256 and HB 350
On Monday, March 9, the Utah Senate passed NRA-supported Senate Bill 256 by a 21 to 6 vote. Sponsored by Senator David Hinkins (R-27), SB 256 would create a permitless carry exemption to allow those who are 21 years of age and not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm to carry concealed without obtaining a permit.
In Utah, existing law allows any resident who can legally own or possess a firearm to carry it openly, either loaded or unloaded, anywhere in the state. Since law-abiding citizens are allowed to carry a firearm openly without a permit, they should not become criminals just because they put on a jacket or place their firearm in their purse or briefcase.
Last week, House Bill 350 was passed out of the House by a 72 to 0 vote. On Monday, March 9, HB 350 passed out of the Senate Judiciary, Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee by a 3 to 0 vote. Sponsored by state Representative Norman Thurston (R-64), HB 350 would eliminate the prohibition of carrying a concealed weapon on a bus.
It is critical that you contact your legislators TODAY in support of these pro-gun measures as they will both likely be voted on tomorrow before adjournment.
