Arkansas: Campus Carry Bill Defeated in Committee

Yesterday, House Bill 1077, an NRA-supported bill that seeks to allow staff members of public colleges and universities with valid Right to Carry permits to carry a firearm for personal protection while on school property, failed to pass out of the House Committee on Education.  The vote was 10-10, with all Republican members of the committee voting for the bill, and all Democrats voting against it.  The most disappointing vote against HB 1077 came from state Representative James Ratliff (D-60), who had previously stated support for allowing ALL Right to Carry permit holders to carry firearms while on university and college campuses.

Our thanks go out to NRA members and Second Amendment supporters who took the time to express their support for HB 1077 to committee members.  Your input helped to ensure the vote was as close as it was.

Our thanks also go out to state Representative Charlie Collins (R-84), the bill’s sponsor, who worked tirelessly to promote this legislation.  NRA will work with Representative Collins and other pro-gun legislators to determine what options may be available to continue promoting Right to Carry on public university and college campuses.

Please take a moment to thank the following members of the House Committee on Education for their support of HB 1077:
