Last week, the Indiana General Assembly began its 2015 session. The NRA will continue this year to fight any attack against your Second Amendment rights while continuing to help advance pro-gun and pro-hunting reforms in Indianapolis.
NRA-backed legislation has recently been introduced:
Senate Joint Resolution 2, authored and introduced by Senator Brent Steele (R-44), is a measure that would create a state Constitutional Right to Hunt and Fish. SJR 2 is critical to protect Indiana’s rich hunting heritage for future generations. The language in this resolution was passed by both legislative chambers in 2014 and is required to be passed again this year or next year to qualify for the ballot for the 2016 General Election.
Senate Bill 433, authored and introduced by Senator Jim Tomes (R-49), would repeal the section of the Indiana statute that prohibits the possession, sale, receipt, or use of short barreled rifles and shotguns. These firearms are legal under federal law and regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934. SB 433 would bring Indiana in line with federal law.
The NRA will keep you updated on the status of legislation impacting your Second Amendment rights in Indiana, in addition to providing a simple and convenient way to contact your elected officials. As always, please check www.NRAILA.org and your email for alerts and action items as both pro-gun and anti-gun legislation progress through the Indiana General Assembly.
