Last Thursday, in an effort to pass anti-gun legislation in the waning days of the 2014 legislative session, state Senator Harris McDowell (D-1) introduced a substitute bill for Senate Bill 137. The language of the substitute bill is a verbatim copy of the federal Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988, which was reauthorized by Congress in 2013. The manufacture and sale of so-called "undetectable" firearms is already prohibited by federal law, thus, this legislation is duplicative and unnecessary.
