The Madison County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to meet tomorrow, March 28, at 11:00 a.m. in the Winterset Courthouse to discuss ideas for additional security measures in the courthouse, including a potential ban on firearms. The county Board is not scheduled to vote on any measure, and as of now, no language has been proposed. Your NRA encourages residents of Madison County to attend this meeting or e-mail thoughtful, respectful comments to the county Supervisors regarding adoption of a policy that respects the rights of law-abiding Iowans in public places, as outlined under state law.
Iowa’s firearms preemption law specifically states that a concealed handgun permit is valid anywhere allowed by state and federal law and that cities and counties cannot restrict carrying beyond current state and federal law restrictions. Any discussion or policy proposal by the Madison County Board of Supervisors should take this into account.
Your NRA will continue to monitor this issue. Please watch your e-mail and visit www.nraila.org for updates.
