Last night, the House Judiciary Committee voted to “hold for further study” anti-gun legislation opposed by NRA-ILA. While the following bills have not been defeated, they will remain in the House Judiciary Committee:
House Bill 7583, sponsored by state Representative Joseph Almeida (D-12), creates the “Safe Firearms Act,” which severely restricts the manufacture, sale, possession and transfer of certain so-called “assault weapons” if such firearm has one of the banned features. This bill would mandate registration of those firearms.
House Bill 7585, also sponsored by Representative Almeida, would ban magazines containing more than ten rounds, mislabeling such magazines as “high capacity.” Violations of this proposed law would result in a prison sentence of 10 to 20 years!
House Bill 7584, also sponsored by Representative Almeida, would ban BOTH semi-automatic “assault weapons” and magazines exceeding ten rounds.
Thank you to NRA members who attended last night’s committee meeting to have their voices heard. Your NRA-ILA will continue to keep you updated when more information on this pending legislation becomes available.
