After a flurry of floor votes that included division votes and recorded roll call votes, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted House Bill 1589 “inexpedient to legislate” today, meaning this egregious anti-gun bill which would have imposed “universal” background checks on even private transactions was defeated for this legislative session.
HB 1589 was an extreme proposal which would have mandated background checks for all transactions at gun shows and on private sales conducted through newspaper or internet ads, even going as far as to virtually eliminate gun transfers between family and friends. This misguided legislation would have done nothing to prevent or reduce violent crime.
The NRA thanks you for your active involvement in calling and e-mailing your state Representative(s), and thanks those state legislators who voted to adopt the amendment which “gutted” HB 1589, ultimately killing it, by a 177 to 175 vote. Please thank those state Representatives(s) who voted to protect your Second Amendment rights today, and remind those who did not that you will be watching and holding them accountable for their voting record this session.
As always, your NRA-ILA will continue to fight against any other attack on your gun rights in Concord, and will keep you informed on Second Amendment-related matters in the Granite State.
