Contact your state Representative(s) TODAY and urge them to oppose HB 1589
This Wednesday, February 12, your state Representative(s) could be the deciding vote on whether anti-gun legislation House Bill 1589 passes in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
If enacted into law, House Bill 1589 would mandate background checks for all transactions at gun shows and on private sales conducted through newspaper or internet ads. It even goes as far as to virtually eliminate gun transfers between family and friends. “Universal” background checks do nothing to reduce violent crime, and only affect law-abiding gun owners by imposing cumbersome mandates and restrictions on the lawful purchase and possession of firearms.
HB 1589 will do absolutely nothing to prevent crime, and public support for these proposals is dwindling. Researchers recently found that only four out of ten Americans support so-called “universal” background checks at gun shows after being informed that the vast majority of firearms sales at these shows are transacted by licensed retailers that already conduct such checks through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) as required by federal law.
Like many of the anti-gun proposals introduced this session, this legislation is a solution seeking a problem. Please contact your state Representative(s) TODAY AND TOMORROW to urge him/her or them to vote against this egregious attack on your Second Amendment rights.
