Despite the efforts of our members who called committee members and showed up in Denver to speak, Senate Bill 14-094 was defeated yesterday on a party-line 3-2 vote in the state Senate State, Veterans, & Military Affairs Committee. SB 94, introduced by state Senator George Rivera (R-3), would have repealed the egregious and rights-infringing bill passed last year by anti-gun legislators in Denver that criminalized the private sale or transfer of a firearm.
Two pro-gun bills are scheduled to be heard in Denver within the week:
Tomorrow, February 5: House Bill 14-1063, sponsored by state Representative Justin Everett (R-22), will be heard in the House State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee. HB 63 would expand “Castle Doctrine” to allow the use of deadly force for self-defense in an individual’s place of business.
Monday, February 10: Senate Bill 14-038, sponsored by state Senator Scott Renfroe (R-13), will be heard in the Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee. SB 38 is important emergency powers legislation which would prevent the Governor from suspending the distribution of firearms during a declared state of emergency.
Your NRA-ILA fully supports both of these common sense bills. Please contact members of these committees TODAY and urge them to support both pro-gun bills as they are considered in the coming days.
