Yesterday, Senate Bill 308, which seeks to make a number of improvements to the South Carolina Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP), was sent to the state House of Representatives for a concurrence vote after technical amendments were made in the Senate by a 34-3 vote. The House could take up this bill as early as next Tuesday. One important aspect of SB 308 would remove the prohibition on CWP holders carrying a concealed handgun into an establishment licensed to serve alcohol. Other improvements include extending the duration or length of term of the CWP, improving training standards, improving the application and renewal process, and expanding where a CWP holder may transport a firearm in his or her motor vehicle. Please contact your state Representative TODAY and urge him or her to vote to concur on Senate Bill 308.
