Thank you to all NRA members and Second Amendment supporters who turned out in advance of the snowstorm in Santa Fe last Friday to voice opposition to HB 77, legislation by state Representative Miguel Garcia (D-ABQ) to ban private firearms transfers at gun shows. The interim legislative committee holding this public hearing did not vote on whether to endorse this proposal for the 2014 session, choosing instead to simply listen to testimony both for and against this measure. Opponents of HB 77 outnumbered supporters by about a 4:1 ratio at the hearing on Friday.
The New Mexico Legislature convenes for its thirty-day budget session on January 21, 2014. We will keep you posted on any move by gun control advocates to advance proposals similar to HB 77.
