The last 18 hours haven’t been good ones for advocates of expanding background checks for gun purchases.
The decisions by Republican Sens. (Ariz.) and Richard Burr (N.C.) to oppose the deal cut by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) on background checks makes the path to 60 votes for the amendment very, very difficult.
