Yesterday, House Bill 3822, introduced by state Representative Mike Pitts (R-14), was reported in the House Judiciary Committee's General Laws Subcommittee. H 3822 seeks to make several reforms to the current Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) system. Among other things, it would extend the duration of the CWP from four years to five, require notification of the permit's pending expiration and remove some of the areas where CWP holders are prohibited from carrying a firearm for personal protection. The NRA testified in support of H 3822 and it now moves to the full House Judiciary Committee for consideration. Please contact members of this Committee and urge them to support this important pro-gun reform.
Senate Bill 308, the Restaurant Carry bill introduced by state Senator Sean Bennett (R-38), remains on the Senate calendar, awaiting action. S 308 was placed on Special Order, a procedural move necessary to allow it to be heard, but it is imperative that the state Senate act on this legislation immediately. The NRA has been working for several years on this issue, and now is the best chance to enact this critical reform. Please contact your state Senator TODAY, and urge her or him to do everything possible to ensure S 308 is considered and passed on the Senate floor as soon as possible.
