Georgia Senate President Pro Tempore David Shafer (R-48) was given the Defender of Freedom Award by the NRA Institute for Legislative Action. Senator Shafer is an "A+" rated state legislator by the NRA Political Victory Fund and one of the nation's strongest champions of the Second Amendment.
Throughout his tenure as a state lawmaker and legislative leader, Senator Shafer has demonstrated exemplary commitment to protecting the firearms freedoms of Georgia gun owners and hunters with strong leadership on Second Amendment issues and an unwavering defense of your personal liberties.
Recently, Senator Shafer played a key role in securing passage of NRA-backed Senate Bill 101 by an overwhelming 41-10 vote in the Georgia Senate. This comprehensive legislation would make several important changes to Georgia firearms laws by increasing reciprocity for out-of-state concealed carry permit holders, protecting the confidentiality of Weapons Carry License holders, repealing the unnecessary and duplicative state-required license for a firearms dealer and preempting a ban on firearms in public housing giving residents the ability to defend themselves regardless of their economic stature.
Senator Shafer is and has been a champion of and leader on our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage in the Georgia Senate. Accordingly, he deserves your appreciation and praise.
