In response to the report prepared by Wisconsin Deer Trustee, Dr. James Kroll, Governor Scott Walker has cancelled Wisconsin’s controversial four-day October deer hunting season. This action was deemed necessary to help restore the decimated deer population resulting from attempts to manage chronic wasting disease, which has ravaged south-central Wisconsin. The traditional nine-day hunt in November will still proceed as planned.
Hunters and sportsmen in Wisconsin should be elated to see decisive steps being taken by Governor Walker to ensure the restoration and preservation of the state’s deer population.
