Tennessee: NRA-Drafted Employee Protection Legislation on the Agenda in Senate Committees; Also House Companion Bills Assigned to Subcommittee!

Friday, February 10, 2012

NRA-drafted Senate Bill 3002 and Senate Bill 2992 have been place on the agenda in their respective Senate Committees.

Introduced by state Senator Mike Faulk (R-4) and cosponsored by Senator Mae Beavers (R-17) and Senator Dolores Gresham (R-26), SB 3002 would recognize that hard-working Tennesseans’ right to self-defense does not end when they drive onto their employer’s property or into publicly accessible parking lots.  This bill would allow firearms to be stored out of sight in a locked private vehicle.  Senate Bill 3002 has been placed on the agenda in the state Senate Judiciary Committee, and will be up for consideration as early as Tuesday, February 14.

SB 2992, also introduced by state Senator Mike Faulk (R-4), is a Firearm Discrimination Prevention bill that would protect law-abiding gun owners from anti-gun policies by employers across the state, including forced firearm registration, random vehicle firearm searches, and “gun zone” parking lots for gun owning employees. SB 2992 has been placed on the agenda in the state Senate Commerce, Labor & Agriculture Committee, and will be up for consideration as early as Tuesday, February 14.

Please contact committee members today in support of SB 3002 and SB 2992.  Please urge them to cosponsor and vote in favor of these pro-gun measures when they come before their committee.  Contact information can be found below.

Companion bills, House Bill 3560 and House Bill 3559, introduced by state Representative Eddie Bass (D-65), have both been assigned to the state House Consumer and Employee Affairs Subcommittee.  Please continue to check your e-mail and www.NRAILA.org for information regarding the progress of these bills over the coming weeks.
