Today, Senate Bill 347 B-Engrossed passed in the Oregon House by a 47 to 11 vote. SB 347 now goes back to the state Senate.
Introduced by state Senator Diane Rosenbaum (D-21), SB 347 was amended in the state House to include a provision that would prohibit a public body from releasing information that identifies either an applicant for, or a holder of, a concealed handgun license (CHL). This bill would also exempt records of individuals and their family members who seek assistance from domestic violence services providers from disclosure as public records.
This is an extremely valuable legislative fix in that a woman or any individual who is granted protections under this legislation would, upon applying for a CHL, have any or all of their personal information immediately become public record, which could create an increased environment for victimization.
